Overview
Homework2Night ("we," "us," "our") provides a homework assistance application for parents and children in grades K-5. We take privacy seriously — especially when it comes to children's data.
Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Our app is designed for use by parents on behalf of their children.
- No direct data collection from children. Child profiles are created by parents. Children do not provide personal information directly.
- Parental consent required. Before any child profile is created, the parent must provide verifiable consent.
- No behavioral advertising. We do not display ads to children or use their data for advertising purposes.
- No third-party tracking on child pages. Pages used by children (Explorer Mode) contain no analytics scripts, tracking pixels, or third-party cookies.
- Data minimization. We only collect what's necessary: child's first name, grade level, and homework session data.
- Parental control. Parents can review, modify, or delete all child data at any time from the Settings page.
What We Collect
From Parents
- Email address and name (for account creation)
- Authentication data (password hash or OAuth token)
- Subscription status
For Child Profiles (provided by parent)
- Child's first name
- Grade level (K-5)
- Avatar color preference
During Homework Sessions
- Photos of homework worksheets (stored securely)
- Text descriptions of assignments
- Answers provided during guided sessions
- Session duration and completion data
How We Use Data
- To provide homework assistance and guided explanations
- To track progress and generate weekly digests for parents
- To improve our AI explanations and curriculum alignment
- To send account-related communications
What We Never Do
- Sell personal data to third parties
- Display advertising to children
- Track children across websites or apps
- Collect children's email addresses, phone numbers, or location
- Store device identifiers for child sessions
Data Storage and Security
All data is stored in Supabase (hosted on AWS). Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Row-level security ensures parents can only access their own family's data.
AI Processing
Homework photos and text are processed by Claude (Anthropic's AI) to generate explanations. Images are sent via encrypted API calls and are not stored by the AI provider beyond the request.
Your Rights
- Access: View all data we hold about you and your children in Settings.
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data at any time. This immediately removes all child profiles, sessions, and uploaded content.
- Portability: Request a copy of your data by contacting us.
